Moderating Image Quality to Improve Travelers’ Experiences

Challenge

The client, a leading global travel website, relies on crowdsourced reviews of hotels, flights, restaurants, and attractions to help other travelers plan their trip.

Property owners and other users upload their own photos to the client’s site as “Primary Thumbnail” images on their business’ page. The client has a set of criteria for what qualifies as a “good” image to be the primary thumbnail, but need human judgement in order to ensure images meet these criteria.

Solution

iMerit teams quickly and accurately reviewed user-submitted images and moderate per client-defined criteria.

Rejected images are not displayed, and those that are approved feature as the property’s primary image.

Results

This moderation improved the quality of information on the site, and built a strong user experience. For three months, the staff judged and tagged 5,000 images a day with 100% accuracy.
